EPIX, Starz expand TV Everywhere apps

EPIX has booted up an TV Everywhere app for Google’s new Android TV platform for streaming players and connected TVs that supports live streams from four channels, thousands of VOD titles, and movie trailers.

EPIX’s Android TV launch, which comes ahead of the expected launch of HBO Now on the platform this summer, will give the premium programmer an authenticated connection with a range of smart TVs from Sony, Sharp and Philips, as well as streaming players such as the Nexus Player, Razer Forge TV, and the 4K-capable Nvidia Shield.

“Our goal is to deliver exceptional content to our customers in as many ways as possible and we are thrilled to reach new and existing subscribers with Android TV,” said Mark Greenberg, EPIX president and CEO, in a statement. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Google, which began with Chromecast last year, to offer subscribers an unparalleled entertainment experience how, when and where they want to see it.”

EPIX, a joint venture of Viacom, Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios,  is available to more than 50 million homes. EPIX has also launched TVE apps for Web browsers, the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and 4, Roku platform, Windows 8, Android and iOS phones and tablets, and optimizations for the Google Chromecast streaming adapter.

Elsewhere on the streaming front, EPIX is also part of Sling TV’s new “Hollywood Extra” add-on that runs $5 per month on top of the OTT service’s core $20 per month package.
